By virtue of going from three groups to two,
there are necessarily some repeat matchups.
Each player will have one opponent (of five) in Round 2 repeated from Round 1.
These will never be between #1 and #2 players from the same group,
or between #3 and #4 players from the same group, but all others can
occur.
With those exceptions, the chances of facing any particular other
player among the twelve is either 3, 4, 5, or 6 out of 9.
3/9 for players of the same rank (e.g. A2-B2 or B4-C4)
4/9 for players ranked 1-3 or 2-4 (e.g. A1-C3 or B2-B4)
5/9 for players ranked 1-4 or 2-3 (e.g. A1-A4 or B2-C3)
6/9 for players ranked 1-2 or 3-4 (e.g. A1-B2 or A3-C4) in different groups
0/9 for players ranked 1-2 or 3-4 (e.g. A1-A2 or C3-C4) in the SAME group
This is about as balanced as it can be.
From each of these Round 2 groups, the top 4 players advance
to the playoffs, which is a single-elimination, 3-stage bracket.
The quarter finals will be:
D1 vs E4 and E2 vs D3
E1 vs D4 and D2 vs E3
Schedule:
Round 1: Deadline March 12.
Round 2: Deadline March 24.
Quarter-finals: by March 31.
Semi-finals: by April 5.
Finals: by April 10.
